Using a chair with a back, playing lazy
on: May 05, 2006, 01:25:07 AM
Not fun.  I'm exhuasted, but still alert and I still have time.

Is there any way to prop yourself up to practice where it isn't effort to sit up?  Can this be done?  Using a chair with a back so you can lean back and put no effort into sitting up?

have you ever thought of using a massage chair.  now, that would keep you going for a while.

i have never even considered actually resting on the back of a chair whilst playing. after being paranoid about being a slouching pianist back when i was around 15 i made an effort to sit straight, and now have the straightest back on the planet when i play!! gets commented on quite a bit haha. so can't curve my back when i'm sitting in other places, except maybe on my computer and on the couch cos i sit in strange positions...

I havent got a piano stool, I just use a desk chair.

My posture is... unorthodox!  :o Lol, hopefully it isnt too bad though.

leaning on the back of the chair doesn't necessarily mean "playing lazy" - i do it all the time (because i'm 8-10 hours on the piano every day, and i have had serious problems), but i pull the chair under me so that i can sit straight and have the back of the chair support my back at the same time (hope this makes some sense, sorry about my weird english)

best luck

I have heard the most efficient way to sit is without any kind of support, that your body can hold itself up if you sit with good posture.
