Scarlatti and Field
on: May 08, 2006, 03:52:21 PM
The work of polishing the learned pieces never appear to come to an end. So, all suggestions to improve what is good and to correct whatever is bad are welcome. Thanks a lot in advance.

Recording Setup: Kawai 48" Upright CX-21D; two Crown PZM Soundgrabber mics; Pre-amplifier: Audio Buddy; Imic A/D converter; a PC

Rafant:

Thank you for sharing! Both pieces were interesting and well-played.  Of the two, I'm more familiar with the Scarlatti Sonata.  I thought you generally captured the pastoral-like simplicity quite convincingly.  I'm not as familiar with the Field Nocturne--it is quite interesting, some unexpected harmonic changes.

In the Scarlatti, I would suggest that you work on the trills--finishing them off more smoothly, gracefully.  In the Field, I would suggest that you think about the overall "story" of the piece--where the climax is located, and how the music is being led to that climax, and then build your interpretation with that structure in mind. Vary the dynamics and color so the listeners can truly follow the direction of the music from start to finish.

Good luck!  :)

Thanks a lot Turner for your kind comments and wise suggestions, which I agree absolutelly with. Trills continue being a problem to me. I hadn't realized about that pastoral-like character of the Sonate. About the Nocturne I´m sure of achieving a more convincing interpretation by following your advise.
