Brahms variations on paganini

just a simple question. how do you guys play the first variation. do you jump those small steps or do you play them 2 .5., 1.5., 2.5., 1.5, do you dont have to jump. get what i mean? how did you master this section?

ahve only been slightly experimenting with this piece (the fourth variation rocks)

ah tend to think these must be more of tiny horizontal leaps as opposed to vertical leaps, or trying some weird fingering. From what ahve noticed in mah approach is that you are actually just playing many tiny leaps. Trying to use the fingers, ah think, would be harder and possibly painful.

But lets wait to what people who actually study this piece entirely think ;D
