My Recital- Brahms
on: May 13, 2006, 08:42:14 PM
Hi all,
I posted video files yesterday, and today I decided I would post audio just in case if people had slow internet connections. As mentioned in the other thread, any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Here are three Brahms works:
Capriccio in B minor, Op. 76, No. 2
Intermezzo in Bb minor, Op. 117, No. 2
Intermezzo in Eb minor, Op. 118, No. 6

maybe more excitement and happiness in the cappricio. i sense just a slight amount more seriousness. how about some carelessness?
you are good. just like me, you have to find that part of your brain that is too careful and turn it off occasionally.

maybe more sensuousness in the intermezzos. not sure exactly what i even mean myself. it's easy to criticize but hard to put criticism into real words as to exact things to do. i am sort of at a loss and need someone else to maybe explain better.
my teacher, inone of the intermezzos, compared the line to a kite or a violin part - that you don't let go of. in this case - you ARE trying to keep the line somewhat metronomic to keep the flow ONLY. basically, if you could switch feel from how you play the mid-sections to the beginning and ending - and keep the contrast in the middle without being too metronomic there.

Very nice! You have a good feel for Brahms, and you are bringing out the melodies nicely.
These are very difficult works that get better with age. (I mean both the age of the pianist and how long he/she plays them over the years!)
I agree that you are a little too careful (I have had the same problem), and now that you have the pieces so well-learned, try to "let go" especially in the Capriccio.
The Cappriccio is hard to play
and
interpret! I would like to hear more playful quality in the "fast" parts and a lot more romanticism in that middle section where you have the beautiful flowing melodies.
The Op 117 Intermezzo is lovely--maybe a touch more blurring in the arpeggio accompaniment so it sounds more wistful and melancholy. (I didn't have time to listen to Op 118. next time
)
Have fun! And keep playing these Brahms pieces, you are really doing great!
