Bosendorfer imperial
on: May 16, 2006, 12:58:17 AM
I am interested to hear comments from other Imperial owners or those knowledgable about this model. Are there aspects one should know about the piano or experiences you have had that would help the general pool of information regarding this model? A new Imperial is coming my way soon so I am keen to widen my experience of it. One thing I do know at this stage is that it is heavy, the crate on the shipping documentation has it weighing in at 720kg. Interestingly I have it on expert record that the individual weights of this model can vary  - considerably more than the 570kg official weight. Allowing for the weight of the crate and stool I wonder if this particular Imperial is more like 650kg... It is in a room where the temperature will be controlled around 19-24C and humidity around 55%RH (allowing for instrumental accuracy this figure will be 52-58%RH).

Thanks!

The unboxed weight of a 290 is 1,225 lbs. This does'nt vary by much, only +/- 10 lbs. The 290 is a has a very large dynamic palette, and a very imposing bass.   The 97 key compass might take some adjusting to, but I never had a problem with that. All together, one of the finest concert grands in production today.
Your piano will benefit from a Dampp-Chaser system if you cannot maintain at least a steady 42%-46% relative humidity for this piano.  52%-58% is way too high.

Thanks gfiore,

I am happy with the humidity level I quoted. The reason for this is that upon my enquiry to Bosendorfer their recommendation was to "maintain humidity between 50-60% RH.

As does Bluthner in London.  Probably as a compromise with the British climate.

The Imperial has 9 extra sub-bass keys. The 275,and 225 have extra 4 sub-bass keys.

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
