Recital program for next Fall

Here's my idea for my first master's recital next Fall.  What do you think?  I don't have all of the etudes learned yet, so my summer project is to add Scriabin 8/2 and Rachmaninoff 33/5, 33/8 and 39/5 so they can finish the list.  Any ideas?

Beethoven:
32 Variations in C Minor

Intermission

Liszt:
Tarantella from Venezia e Napoli

Scriabin:
Etude Op. 8, No. 2 in F-sharp minor
Etude Op. 8, No. 5 in E Major
Etude Op. 8, No. 12 in D-sharp minor

Rachmaninoff:
Etude-tableau Op. 33, No. 5 in E-flat minor
Etude-tableau Op. 33, No. 8 in C-sharp minor
Etude-tableau Op. 39, No. 1 in C minor
Etude-tableau Op. 39, No. 5 in E-flat minor

Looks good to me- love the English Suite you chose! That's a wonderful one.

Im not sure if rach 39\5 is the right way to finish, it doesent give a closure feeling, instead it is filled with highlights so you might wanna place that more in the middle of your programme. But you have a very interesting programme here

True, I wasn't really considering putting it at the end anyway.  I listed all the etudes in numerical order.  Any ideas on the order for the second half?

I think that order is up to you, but what is most important is how you start and finish the recital, or in this case, each half.  If I were play this recital, I would finish with the Scriabin D# minor etude.  I, in fact, did once close a recital with that piece and found it quite effective.

i would be inclined to suggest a longer more extended work as your english suite is multi movement and you have a LOT of etudes. But dont object to your pieces just maybe balance out some longer and some shorter??

I changed the program a bit.  The order is still TBD, but I had to add a few more etudes since the recital has to be at least 60 mins...  I still may change it a bit, but I think the 'meat' of the recital is pretty much decided.  Thanks for all the input!  I'll be sure to keep you updated on the date/time/place in case any of you out there are in town.  I'll also post some or all of the recital in the audition room once it's done and I can breathe... lol

I added the Liszt Tarantella which is a bit longer than any of the etudes.  I didn't even think of adding it until just today when I had a conversation with my professor.  He's like, "the rep is OK, but what ever happened to the Liszt Tarantella which we did last semester?".

It's gonna be a fun recital!

I'll post here again when I determine a concert order for the second half.

It's a school recital, so no encore.

I am not sure why, but I would tend to inverse the second part and finish with the Liszt, it's such a great piece to finish.

I think that even though those are a lot of variations and it is a suite, the classical/baroque side seems a bit smallish.

And only One romantic song? (Where does Scriabin fit in?? he's weird)
I would say to cut down on the Rach and the Scriabin and focus more on Romantic and Classical.

Just because you don't like something doesn't mean putting it in there makes everything else unbalanced.

My advice is simple: you have two etudes by Rachmaninoff in E flat minor, and the program is kind of long.

Take out one of the E flat minor etudes. Three russian etudes by Scriabin and Rachmaninoff should be fine.

I didn't quite mean it in that fashion.
In my opinion, by the pictures I've seen of him, he seems like a romantic, but his music is far from that.
THAT is why he's weird to me.

Either way, it still doesn't mean it isn't unbalanced. There are TOO MANY Modern pieces, although some of them may sound romantic.

I'm now toying with the idea of putting the Chopin 10/8 in there somewhere, since I'll be learning it for a competition next semester anyway.
