Amazing really. Here we are all arguing over how hard mozart is to play, and then a 10-year old comes in and pulls it off like she had the experience of a 50 year old. The mystery of the human mind.

Mozart was probably 10 when he wrote it, so maybe he's been reincarnated to play it to today's concert going folk.

Actually, he was 32 years old when he finished it... his first performance of this concerto was when he was 33.

Think back to when you were ten. Hell even five. Playing Mario bros. 1 and 3 without ever being hit by a single enemy. Playing Kickle Cubicle and solving every ridiculus puzzle the game threw at you. Beating your older brother and his friends at every game you played.

Or maybe that was just meh :-\

I've been thinking...

How do we know that her musicality and style was completely off her own back and not all her parents work? I mean she is Asian, and relating to the topic about Asians it's a possibility that her parents have worked her to the bone to get a performance like this, and that everything she plays is a product of her parents telling her to do it this way and that.

However I'm not so sure about this being true from the smile she gave at the end, which showed she truly enjoyed playing it and that it's all her.

Then again, that smile might have been placed by the parents...
Henrah

EDIT: After reading through what I said, I'm kind of belittling her.... All I can hope is that what I have thought isn't true, and that we have a true child genious ;D

The color and emotion at that age. It's even more impressive than that Jordan Adams Ocean Etude vid at age 10.

I have seen hundreds of similar videos.  Here on the west coast every master class is chocked full of kids just like this (I call it the parade of the little asian girls).  As an older person who works in IT, I also get to know their parents - or at least their equivalients.  Here's my take- be offended if you must -

they all play the same.  they are boring to listen to.  the girls HATE playing the piano - all the emoting is just an act - they are forced to play and their parents literally stand over them for 3 hours a day while they practice.  it's all part of "enduring mental torture" according to the parents.  their parents require that they win all their competitions to honor the family.  to do so, the parents will pay ANYTHING to get the best teachers for these kids.  The result is - the teachers are all booked with little asian girls who HATE the piano, and are really destined for medical or engineering school (this means someone like myself has to take what I can get even though I LOVE the piano).  for some reason you rarely see these kids becoms concert pianists, which logically follows from most of the above, so in my estimation they are just taking up space.

You say what many want to say but are too afraid...

*bows mah head*

Any child can be molded into a concert pianist. Much like anything made out of clay, though they look like pianists, or clay, they are simply clay, or whatever the hell they really are.

Ya geet what ahze sayin?

I child who smiles after playing chopsticks or fur elise is a happy child. I child who smiles after playing Schumann's  A minor, or Brahms's d minor, concerto is really crying on the inside.

A child who can play Rach's 3rd should truly be pitied (LangLang...ehem...cough).

I wish my parents have molded me into one of those so that I don't have to struggle with my Mozart sonata at this age.

Why is everyone so biased against good Asian pianists? When the video of the 10-yr-old playing the Ocean Etude was posted, I didn't see anyone saying "Maybe he   doesn't actually enjoy it, maybe his parents are pushing him." (although they did find other ways to criticize him unnecessarily). And I, personally, didn't find the video boring to listen to- did anyone else?

I think the stereotype does hold some truth, but certainly does not apply to all (note that I am asian myself). I remember reading articles on jordan adams (Ocean etude pianist) and his parents, although they deeply cared about his musical development, said they never even ask him to practice, and would accept his quiting the piano without even asking questions. THat this little girl is already playing with an orchestra is a good sign the parents are probably involved (as I doubt the 10 year old went around signing up for auditions with orchestras), as opposed to Jordan Adams who was just messin around in a piano store.
