How about that Jorge Bolet learned the Mephisto Waltz in 1 1/2 hrs time?
Bolet had an incredible technique and sightreading skills, and also the Mephisto Waltz really isn't that hard.
i read somewhere that Mozart once went to some concert which had a symphony or opera or something with multiple parts and came home and wrote down the entire score from memory flawlessly. that's impressive!
This one is actually true. Mozart went to the vatican when he was 14 to hear a performance of the Miserere in the sistine chapel. The Miserere was only allowed to be performed in the sistine chapel on certain holy days, and it was illegal to write it down. So, after the performance, Mozart wrote the entire thing down from memory. The pope somehow heard about this, and agreed to let Mozart see the original score, which showed that Mozart had made some small mistakes.
I don't buy it totally. Mozart's composition teacher at the time had access to the score and probably let Mozart take a look at it. You have to remember that it is leopald telling this story. He was known to exaggerate his son's ability to help make him more money.bolive
but he made mistakes. that lends me to believe he didn't have total recall.
Cziffra had an arse that looked like he was wearing nappies. Diapers to you Americans.
but is dull, boring, and overrated.
Adolph Henselt, won the Russian International fly swatting Championship for 3 years running.
On the rare occasions when he appeared in a concerto, he would hide in the wings until just before the piano entry, at which point he would race onto the stage, play his part and then dash away again without once looking at the audience.
