This forum is very advanced.
on: May 22, 2006, 10:40:45 PM
I'm new to the forums, and I have to say that most of the posts concern pieces I've only dreamed of playing, and most of the recordings are beyond human comprehension (well, mine, anyway  ;D).  I think I can learn a lot from you guys, you all seem like pros!

be nice, stevie, Yes, there are some good player here, fakers here, poor players here, and anything else you can think of, so be careful as you would on any forum, but enjoy learning all the stuff people have to offer.  I'v learned so much since I started coming to this forum, it's can be a valuable tool, at moments.

The pieces I discussed are my "dream pieces" so don't feel bad. :)  You can find rewarding music at most levels, like Bagatelle in a minor (AKA Fur Elise) or Bach.  I'm no where near the level of some things, and I'm not really able to devote that much time to music.
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

Welcome sinspawnammes! You will get good and bad advice anywhere in this world, it's always a good way to learn to see what is right and wrong (something we do our whole lives).
Do not start to compare yourself to recordings on here because that type of thinking if it doesn't motivate (and there are better things to motivate you to get better) it can only crush your desire to do better. I assure you there are even "better" recordings that what you find on this website, so there is always better, but there is no point to it except to be appreciated.

we discuss the music we like, alot of it tends to be hard.

most of the time we obviously cant play the pieces, and even if we can (ive said i can play a few hard pieces and sight read other hard things) it doesnt mean we do it at a particularly 'professional' level.

go look in the audition room for a better representation of the true talent in this forum.

Yeah, I wouldn't really take anything here too seriously.  This forum is mostly just for fun, or a waste of time, depending on how you look at it.  :)

Actually, Beethoven's Bagatelle in A minor is another familiar piece that's simpler than Fur Elise.  I don't think Beethoven ever called Fur Elise a Bagatelle.  It's a WoO.

it is true that on first look posts with titles like "am i playing rach 3 enough times a day" and "i just find fantasie impromptu too simple" are threatening, but you'll realise most of the ppl on this forum are just fantasising about playing these monstrous pieces. THere are some geniuses (or genii (or whatever)) but dont be intimidated. im too scared to post anything in the audition room tho!

Personally the guy from skytopia is a faker  :-\
Haha lets not follow his example and spend 2-3 years on FI and still play it crappy.

heh, yeah it's easy to talk a mean game. I'm sure I've been guilty of coming across as a notch above reality ;D.

The wary reader can learn to tell the difference between who's talking and who's talking from experience.

But I would have to disagree with Lostinidle... DO compare yourself with the recordings here, as well as the greats. Just take the mindset that with enough practice you can achieve similar results, and it will be motivational rocketfuel!
