Chopin: Underplayed yet gret pieces
on: May 24, 2006, 03:03:01 AM
Which pieces by Chopin are underplayed ?

Do you like them?

In your opinion are they as great as the others?
The masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the cocomposer what he ought to have composed.

G flat Impromptu, Polonaise-Fantasy, just about any of the Mazurkas.

The Polonaise-Fantasy is one of Chopin's greatest musical accomplishments in my opinion.

I agree about the 3rd impromptu, and I would also add the second impromptu to the list.  It's a very pretty piece.

No way, WHERE?!

That's my favorite polonaise ever, totally awesome piece (SO bloody difficult looking as well, I don't dare touch it, lol). Plus it has a mazurka movement in it. :P

Piano sonata n° 1.

It is very nice, and completely underplayed.
It seems to me that Chopin's disdain to it is probably the reason, but its a great sonata anyway.

oh man how about etude 25/7?!!! nobody ever perform it!

it's right between the thirds etude and the sixths etude, hence it's kind of ignored because it's slow.

listen to a rec sometime, it's absolutely wrenching.

Nocturne Op.55 No.2

Many of the Mazurkas

Preludes in A-flat (the Op.28 one and the op.posth. one)

Krakowiak Op.14 (okay, a lot of material from other pieces, but still great in the energy it has)

Cello Sonata, Op.65

Trio, Op.8

The last three are NEVER played.
