Beethoven Moonlight Sonata III Movement (Studio Recording)
on: June 04, 2006, 10:38:44 AM
Yesterday I recorded everything in one hour at a studio. The sound is really nice, although there are still some small mistakes I'll have to work out. But the whole piece is uncut and not edited.
Any comments are appreciated

BRAVO!!!
THat was really good!!
I think i heard only one mistake, like when a finger hits 2 notes at once instead of just one, i think. But so what(but i see what your saying since it's for a CD), that was incredible!

Yes, wow, I liked it. I didn't read that you recorded the third part, so I was expecting part 1, a quiet start. So, like it should, the beginning of part III was overwhelming.
(I listened to it twice).
If you would like to have a hint for improvement: in the first minutes sometimes you rushed a little, especially when something difficult had to be played.
Succes

Sorry to be a bit negative, but I think it's too chaotic! In terms of pedal, dynamics, phrasings, the overall grasp of the dramatic structure; you sound like a stray tornado, not sure where you are going!:-) Every passage is imbued with a fury (and excellent fingerwork, quite astonishing precision you have!) that seems to take away the impact of the real highlights too much.
Also, where did they place the microphones? It sounds a bit compressed; were the microphones very close to the strings?

Nice playing :p, very expressive, i like that for this movement.
On some places you rush it a bit too much, wich leads to mistakes.

there is an almost imperceptible grouping of notes (the arpeggios, etc) that are not played as evenly as they could be if u continued to FLATTEN ur hand and work on evenness. start thinking LINE. think where u want to go with the line.
danielperisino is right, imo, about a chaotic feel - whereas u could easily change it. u have the dexterity to do many things.
also, when u are asking the question and answering the question - don't be in arush there either.
*glad u found a studio to record in! i think they should have tuned the piano better, but i'm really being picky today. maybe i'm just not myself. somehow this piece reminds me of someone with jitters emptying out pills and spilling the whole thing. what i'd like to feel is a cabin in the middle of a winter storm. u have the storm swirling, but the inner heat and peacefulness of the fire in the fireplace and the 'centeredness' of the cabin as opposed to the swirling snow.

one last crit - and it's not really meant to be crit because this piece is difficult and it's easy to crit and not so easy to play.
what i'd like to hear is consistency with how long notes are held and rests are held. for instance, the peak two chords should be consistent in how they are played. listeners remember from one time to another - and if u don't play exactly as u played before (especially within a few bars time) - they will immediately sense an 'imperfection.'
