Sonata in A K.331 Does anyone like it anymore?
on: June 09, 2006, 04:51:40 PM
Ok, so pretty much all 3 Movements are recognisable to people that never listen to classical music, Alla Turca is completely over done. So has the piece lost any meaning it once had, and does it get on your nerves hearing it? I had to study it for A level and so I just so happened to learn to play bits of it, well more like 80% of it lol, but I don't know if I can be bothered to learn it properly. The only movement I still really like is the first. But I'm more interested in other peoples opinions anywho, so any thoughts?

I think it is a great sonata - of course it hasn't lost meaning. You have to approach it as though it is not cliche. We get to the point in study that most of our favorite pieces are overplayed (Chopin Ballade, Mephisto Waltz, E Minor Toccata of Bach), and so it is important to approach these, nonetheless, as new pieces, never heard before.
My taste is for the first movement as well. Have you heard a good recording? I'm curious.
Best,

only if it is well played. if it is not - it is a great threat to mankind. if u hear it - u either want to murder the person playing it - or listen to see how they interpret it. say, that could be used for terrorism. can't u just see people running away from someone who has a taperecorder and tries to play it for everyone.
