In my opinion Materazzi got as he deserved. I cant imagine what he said to zizou but it must have been something unbelievably insulting that made zidane snap for a second.

Zizou snapped 13 times before. He is known for a cool and fair player but also for incidents like this. Stupid way to end his career. He destoyed a perfect image.

No one knows what Matterazi said but I think it is unfair to assume it was something really bad just because we don't like to see Zidane as an insane person.

you clearly see materazzi pinching zidane in his...boob. Then he says something like: "omg, you are so childish, grow up", then some more bad talk and...BAM

I wasn't arguing against the fact that they were talking because obviously they were.

Seems he was able to restrain himself enough to hit him in the chest instead of against his head.

I am trying to imagine how it feels to not being able to control yourself at all in these rare cases.

well, it looks like zizu might have a shot at a career in fighting or action movies. my, he really headed the crap out him.
i love the guy, he will be forgiven, and it will mostly be forgotten.
he will be sorry, but the world will always love him.

Actually, it would have been better if Zidane headbutted him in the head. A blow even have as bad as that to the chest can send the heart into cardiac arrest.

I was half-hoping for a full-blown punch up between the two of them... but nah Materazzi just HAD to fall over like a pussy.

Give it a break man... Ziadne pulled  low, dirty under the belt punch. He deserved 110% to get red carded.

Actually, it would have been better if Zidane headbutted him in the head. A blow even have as bad as that to the chest can send the heart into cardiac arrest.

I thought about this but then rather about the breast bone breaking and piercing the lung, but I think it is besides the point. I imagine that the initial idea will be to hit someone against the head.

I think Materazzi was just knocked off his feet. Not all itallians are divers. They are eather divers or slayers, for the lack of a better word, and Materazzi is clearly the last having a long list of potentional careerending tackles and intentionally damaging the opponent. But Materazzi usually does this in the heat of the battle and he never argues with the ref. Just like Gatuzzo also isn't a diver.

If you review the video you will see Materazzi making a gesture with his head. I think it means 'Ooh, come one. Don't be a wuss' since to me this is the typical non-verbal language that fits a line like this. Then Zidane walls away, turns around and he says one more thing, and then he get the provocing reaction.

And for the people that want to forget this incident. We have also 'forgotten' his headbut against HSV and his kick outside the duel in 1998 against Saudi Arabia. He collected a total of 13 red cards during his career. The problem now is that this red card was in the final and in his final match. Kind of like last impressions last.

Quite a way to go out like... I'd have done the same, if my team had been losing badly and it was my last match.  However, Zidane's presence was pretty crucial.

Even so, having had Zidane on wouldn't have necessarily made France score another goal.   Trezeguet had already come on so probably would have taken a penalty anyway... so even if Zizu hadn't cracked Italy would most likely have won, although the morale effect of losing Zidane probably influenced things.  It wasn't the smartest of moves by the legendary player

stylish though 8)

Rumour has it Materazzi called Zidane a "dirty terrorist", which he publicly denied.

Who knows - we'll see what Zidane says; he's agreed to do an interview in a few days.

also on the rumour mill are that he said:

"a painful death on you and your family"

"Why dont you play for the country you came from(algeria)"

"I hope (zidanes former coach who just died of cancer) died a painful death"

I can't wait to hear what was said.

There are plenty of romours. Surely Matarazzi is a thrash talker but he can't have said all that? Of course he is in denying everything.

I think the insult about his former coach, his second father, is the worst. I have also heard his mother is in the hospital. If that is true then it could also be the death wish to his mother.

About the gif, someone made it and then someone else eddited it into the second one. Also I remember now that it is in the style of Final Fantasy.
