Grades and Levels

I am due to take my ABRSM Grade 4 exam at the end of the month. However I have noticed that every one speaks about "Level" 1, 2 etc. I assume this must be the American Method. How do the levels compare to grades as there seems to be more levels than grades?.

I think a lot of the time people are just mentioning levels of various method books that they use which don't necessarily bear any consistent relationship to each other or to the grades of differing examining boards. Look here for what happens in some different countries;
