Four hands one PIANO! Any good one?
on: June 14, 2006, 04:26:25 AM
My friend and I want to play a piece for four hands and one piano for next year. He wants to play something really hard and we don't really have the knowledge of what piece to play. What is hard and beautiful in this category? (Also crowd pleasing :-D)

I have Rachamaninov's Six Pieces but were not really interested in that :-p

If possible could you upload the recording?

Thanks All!

Gershwin Cuban Overture  8) Awesome Piece.  Very difficult, some spots have octave/ double fourth runs.
Interested in discussing:

-Prokofiev Toccata
-Scriabin Sonata 2

Schubert wrote a LOT of piano music for four hands. Have a look at it. You will find beautiful pieces there. Many recodings are available.

Good luck

Variations on the theme "C.S."=Chop Sticks. It's neat.
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

Are you talking about PDQ Bach's version (from the "Short-Tempered Clavier")?

there's a piece called jamaican rumba i think you can get that for four hands its by arthur benjamin. I have the 2 piano version but i am sure i have tried the 1 piano 4 hands version as well, it's quite tricky.

ooh.  i heard that on the radio and really liked it.  but, i didn't realize there was a duet version.  maybe u'll have to purchase it.  will need decent scores to read anyway.  or, check ur musical library.  interlibrary loan might work?  does uni of penn have interlibrary with julliard and places like that - with music library?

No, it's a piano duet.  Leonard Slatkin (who formerly conducted the St. Louis Symphony), is playing one of the parts, that's why it's on that disc.  I know this piece, believe me it's not for soloist and orchestra (it's a ballet suite, not a concerto).  Ok, yes there's an orchestral version of it, but it was originally composed as a piano duet and then later the orchestral version was based on the duet.

Here's a place you can order the score:
