strange but normal school age student behavior
on: June 18, 2006, 03:24:39 PM
I'm always surprised by it, but I guess I should expect it.

What things have you seen kids doing that is odd, but when you think about it, fits for their age level?

do u mean rudeness.  yes.  i am surprised too.  the sad thing - is that parents might be trying (attempting) to teach them manners and it doesn't stick for a while.  but, then, i was thinking of my own behaviour sometimes and i suppose we don't notice ourselves as much.  for instance, if i'm having a good day - everyone gets treated good.  if i'm having a bad day , i might say something to someone that i normally wouldn't say.  then, i have to go back and apologize or my conscience will be bubbling with froth about the consequences.  take what i said tom1469-for example.  would a normal rational person do this (especially if they lived next door to mayla).  i don't think so.  whatever posessed me to critique her singing - i don't really know.  in fact, i surprised myself.  my boldness would be quite subdued if she were next door.   maybe if u don't think u'll se the person again - ur more likely to do something wild and crazy and inappropriate.  for instance, on the last day of school expect terrible things.  bald teachers toupees ripped off, chalkboards with broken chalk, random wickidness.  i'm not saying this is a very good indication of control of teenagers (i've never seen this type of behavior with gradeschoolers).

perhaps we should have the gradeschoolers come and give lessons in behavior to the older children?  have u seen mean girls (the movie)?  that will give u an idea of the norm of behavior of girls to one another.  i don't know how kids survive the teen years anymore.  surprisingly, i think guys are way more civil to each other than girls.  they may fight - but verbal fights with girls leave more scars probably.  think of the fat girl.  will she ever become thin if ostracized.

despite the beginning of the year teacher warnings - do u think they'll remember it on the last day?  the kids who are most in trouble are probably the ones that show up on that day.  or, maybe visa -versa- the good ones show up on the last day - and the bad ones skip school.  i don't know.  it's been so long now.  i think teachers deserve a huge round of applause at the end of the year.

Mostly being rude to each other, thinking they are having fun or teasing.  They say it is a way of showing friendship.  I don't want friends like that, but it doesn't seem to bother the kids.  Calling each other "fool".  Black nail polish.  Spiked hair (with elmer's glue).  Sewing themselves with a real needle and thread.  Just to name a few.

yes.  as we drove away from a visit to a girlfriends, my daughter yelled out the window to her friend, 'ur corny.'  she yelled back some other insult and they smiled at each other.  i guess this is normal.  (as i pulled her back into the car and whispered 'be nice to ur friends').

I had a 5th grade girl student show up with the word "LOSER" written in big bold letters across her hand.  That was interesting.

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
