What do you think of 'The Da Vinci Code'?
on: July 15, 2006, 12:54:27 PM
I liked the book, it's very exciting, completely unpredictable, even though it had some criticisms for the church...

Some of my pals found it lousy. Curse their pig-headed brains. (I don't use vulgar words, usually)

Haven't read it before? Well, do it before I push you into a pile of smelly old horse dung and forbid you from using mouthwash for the rest of your life. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Wow, that's the first time I have ever been mean on this forum!!

I found it to be some of the worst writing that I've ever encountered.  I suppose, however, it could  be mildly enthralling in light of the fact that there is a cliffhanger at the end of every two-page chapter.

Best,
ML

Sigh, different people have different views, eh?
I agree to the enthralling part.
Thanks for your reply.

I have not read it all, coz i got bored.

I have read "Holy Blood  & The Holy Grail", on which it nicked its story.

I completely agree. The writing is crap. The characters and the dialogue are hackneyed and one-dimensional. But I couldn't put it down, probably because of all the cliffhangers. It was the first of his books that I read.

I read the rest of his books (I'm ashamed to say), and the plots are all essentially identical, as are the characters. And by the time you're reading the fourth one, his writing traits get very irritating. And yet, annoyingly, you still won't be able to put the book down! It's like a car crash.

all it makes me think of is rev. 22:19 that warns against anyone changing the words of the bible to something else (another gospel).

So, the stupendous secret that would rock christianity, bring down the catholic church and cause murders, secret societies, etc. was that Jesus made out with Magdalen and had children?

How lame.  ::)

But then I guess they could not tell the real awesome secret :o, so they had to come up with this rubbish.

Best wishes,
Bernhard.

I liked the Da vinci code...at first... I found it fluffy, light and pretty easy to read (besides, it has pictures!) then I read Angels and Demons, I sstarted to get annoyed, same plot, different cute girl, same "surprise ending" that I new would happend about 20 pages in, I thought, oh well, makybe not ALL his books are the same so I read Digital Fortress and Deception point.  BIG MISTAKE!!!

ALL OF HIS BOOKS HAVE THE EXACT SAME PLOT!!!

Allow me to outline:

1. Someone dies
2. Man teams up with girl and they begin to solve mystery
3. they are on a time limit (the world will end, the police are after them etc)
4. After running around alot, panicking and all around "the worl will end! the world will end!" they:
5. Try and get help from a "trusted friend"
6. Trusted friend helps, they solve mystery
7. Trusted friend screws them over, and they have to fix it (namely kill the good/bad dude)
8. After that gripping twist they get everything fixed, lock up a few more bad dude.
9. Guy and Girl sleep tgether promising to love each forever (boring)
10. They don't keep in tough or they stay together. Yay!

Congratulations you have just read all five of Dan brown's books in 10 easy steps!

The book was mediocre.  I hoped for more about DaVinci, a truly incredible person.

Yes, I was aware of that because of Baigent´s plagiarism suit against Dan Brown in the UK (the case was dismissed in the end).

I did not read the book, but watched the movie. For all the hoopla it was getting, I really expected alot better. In my opinion it had a plot of a terrible B movie, just his one had Tom Hanks and some special effects in it.
