never heard of GPD (maybe it's a foreign thing?)  i believe the DMA is doctor of music and yes, it's the same thing as a PhD  (hope i'm correct).  these people are the kind of people that hear a wrong note in the middle of a vast quantity of other notes and not confused easily.  they are light years beyond everyone else.  these very smart people have terrible senses of humor.  u know if u make them laugh - you've got a good joke.  they don't laugh at regular humor and usually quite serious.

A GPD is a Graduate Performance Diploma.  I know Peabody offers it.  I'm not quite sure if it's on the same level as a masters or a doctorate...probably masters because theres no "doctor" in the name...but then whats the difference between a masters and a GPD?

I think the GPD is more music and not a lot of other graduate type classes, kind of like a performance dimploma

OK, just found it...

The Graduate Performance Diploma is a two-year, graduate-level performance program made up of lessons, recitals, ensembles and one class per semester. It is designed to meet the needs of highly accomplished performers who wish to pursue a more performance-intensive goal than  represented by the M.M. or D.M.A.  Majors are available in all areas of performance, including opera and chamber music.  The Graduate Performance Diploma is considered a full-time program, but since the course load is reduced the tuition is substantially lower than for a degree program.

So I guess for what I want to be doing (hopefully teaching at some college or conservatory), I would get the MM and the DMA, because they have pedagogy in the program, instead of the GPD, which is more for performers.

There's also a curious tendency of writing either Phd or DPhil.....
