Help on Chopin Barcarolle - tied notes...
on: July 21, 2006, 07:55:18 PM
Hi,

Is it just me always has this problem re. tied notes vs slurs!

In the Barcarolle which I'm working on, my Schirmer edition has some clearly tied notes (line both above and below each note of the chord across the bar-line) on the following chords:

Bar 10 - the second repeat of the A#+F# chord
Bar 67 - the 3rd repeat of the E# octave
Bar 97 - the second repeat of the A#octave
...and most importantly,
Bar 98 - the third repeat of the C# octave

...yet my favourite rendition of this by Wendy Chen clearly plays the final repeat of the full chord in most cases, as does Zimmerman.

Maybe this comes down to personal interpretation - in which case I prefer the ties - but I'd be interested in others opinions or different edition suggestions.

Thanks.

I would agree.  First check a more reliable edition.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Certainly will next time.

Still interested though in people's thoughts on the interpretation...
