And, if I am not too terribly mistaken (which I am--on occaision), Shostakovich wrote his Preludes and Fugues to honour the Master--that is, Bach. The first one. J.S.

No, no, no, that's JUST for the well-tempered clavier, he also wrote other "lesser" PFs. Oh wait, that's what he asked, never mind.
