Other arts.
on: July 26, 2006, 12:45:45 PM
Hi, we are all (or the most of us) pianists here in this forum. But I know much pianist who for example love to paint. What other artistic things do like except of piano?

I used to draw pretty well... haven't for a few years though, I'll have to try again and see if I'm still any good!

i'm an artist in denial, i am severly bitter over the whole art world, but had a revelation in june when i thought i missed it after illustrating a book to go with carnival of the animals for my teaching prac kids. but then i got bored again. i'm thinking of making christmas cards this year though which will be quite an achievement for me!

There aren't really other artistic things I actually do but I am interested in other arts. I love looking at paintings and reading poetry and novels and watching dance and going to concerts.

I like looking to paintings, unfortunatly I'm not so a talented painter. Also, I love to cook, I don't know if it is really an art, but I adore good food.

i stencil.  does that count?  i've done these enlargements (by eye i might add).  you know - copying some wallpaper design or enlarging a picture from a bowl.  we used to have these russian bowls and i copied the design onto the wall in the kitchen in my last house.

also, i love color.  i tried to bring the outside colors inside my house in the current house.  the livingroom is a sort of sunset pink.  the middle kitchen yellow and the real kitchen a sort of pastel green.  people come in the house and say - 'oh, you make me not so scared to paint my walls.'

the diningroom is flamengo pink.  from outside at night it looks like a warm fireplace kitchen.  i love it.  my kids think i'm wacko.  they say that to have an elegant house you have to have everything neutral colors.  neutral peutral.  that's what i say.

I'm kina like you when it comes to colours.  If it's flamboyant, loud, or anything of the sort unorthodox - it's a great colour.

I did a little new media art (aka: computer generated art) as part of my undergrad.  Like using webpages in weird non-intuitive ways where nothing is self explanatory and navigating a web site is like walking through M.C. Eschers Relativity

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

It took a while but I'm finally coming 'round to appreciate poetry.  No aspirations to write it though.

I do aspire to learn to draw, and have started a bit.  Nature is what inspires me, I'd love to be able to draw a scenic view of the river where I live.  I did a self-portrait and was surprised at some of the detail I pulled off, but the perspective was all wonky.  I'll have to make more time to develop it.

I'll figure out how to scan and post it in the near future.

This is a poem I wrote about mental illness.

I love all sorts of art, from literature to ballet to painting to photography to sculpting and architecture...

As for what I DO besides piano (;)), I like to sketch sketches and on some rare occasions write poetry. Mostly piano's what I do, though.
"I always make sure that the lid over the keyboard is open before I start to play." --  Artur Schnabel, after being asked for the secret of piano playing.

The motivations for learning the piano are diverse, ranging from personal enjoyment to cultural appreciation and professional aspirations. While some see it as a way to connect with cultural heritage, others pursue it as a path to fame and fortune. In the movie “Piano Dreams” director Gary Lennon documents the struggles and sacrifices of three wannabe piano stars in modern China. Read more
