10 pianos, 20 pianists - Video!!
on: July 27, 2006, 01:28:37 AM
I put some vids on You Tube of this concert with some local pianists.

Shot with just a digital camera, so sorry for the quality and the shakeyness.

Saint-Saens - Dance Macabre:

Bizet - Carmen:

Rossini - William Tell

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Wow the idea of that is so cool. It would be a good experience I think to be part of that kind of ensemble.

Who is the conductor? She conducts totally wrong.....not even on the right beat, especially on the dance macabre. Is she a musician? Also the patterns do not coincide with the music at all. Just curious ;D

Conductor is Boyanna Toyich.

The out of sync is a video problem.  Yes she did beat with the music.

I agree that her conducting leaves more to be desired.  I felt she was not activly communicating gestures to the pianists, and not encouraging minute in-the-moment interpretation tweaks.  I would have like to see more connection between her and the ensemble.

I've done something similar just without a conductor and in a smaller scale.  Was really challenging because everyone expresses differently and one has to get that all in sinc.  The fact that I'd only met any of these people 5 days before and saw the music for the first time at the same time certainly made this an fun experience
