Topic: Diffrences in how Moderato from Rach 2 is interpreted  (Read 2290 times)

I find this kind of amusing... I was listening to different recording of the Rach 2, and I realized how far we've strayed from how Rachmaninoff played it himself.  Take a look.

(listen after "bell" tollings.)

Richter, surprisingly, plays EXTREMLY slow:

well, obviously, rachmaninoff's interpretation is the "correct" one. btw, whats the point of this thread?

Now that kinda sucks.

But i was aware of the difference. Richter meant in the moderato part that even though it seemed obviuos that the orchestra had the melody and the piano was only accompanying, it was actually the other way around, and that the piano had a significant meaning here. Maybe thats why rachmaninoff in these arpeggios is so unconsistent in how many notes he uses in each.
