Unfortunately, the music is quite expensive, as the only publisher (Zen-on) is japanese.  I learned about a third of this amazing piece, and if I ever get the time, will learn the rest of it.  It's VERY difficult.

And I inquired to Mr. Rzewski on how to improvise the cadenza he helpfully suggested, "Just do it, man" ;D

This composer's work is absolutely incredible.  My favourite works of his are his North American Ballads.  Hamelin does an absolutely wonderful job in his performance of the People United variations as well as two of the four North American Ballads.  Winnsboro Cotton Mill Blues is unspeakably genius.

The Zen-on Piano Library is always happy to do business with anyone, I should hope.  You need not know Nihongo to order some scores from them. :)

I have here Zen-On's "Jefusukii: Sukuwea - Noos Amerikan Baraado" [Rzewski: Squares - North American Ballads] and it was only ¥1,600 ($14.92 USD).

The People United Will Never Be Defeated variations do cost more than that, though.  Here is Zen-on's actual page on it: https://www.zen-on.co.jp/search/shuroku_list.phtml?music_id=11407 and the price listed there is only ¥2,100 (¥2,000+5% tax), which is $19.58 USD.

Whoever is selling that score for fifty dollars is making a massive profit. :)

The Hamelin performances are terrific, but for me the best rendition of the People United is still Rzewski himself (what a cadenza!!).
