Stravinsky Rite of Spring
on: August 09, 2006, 12:43:09 AM
A while back I read Stravinsky's published review of something like 5 recordings of the Rite of Spring. It was funny because it was unlike every other review I have ever read, which typically wax poetic, and give a glossy picture of the recordings for good or worse. He just made 5 columns, one for each recording, and several rows representing bar numbers, and criticized where all the conductors diverged from his instructions. He concluded that the Boulez recording was the best, but even found many faults with that, including an instrument that was playing in the wrong clef, that both Boulez and the instrumentalist failed to notice.
Does anybody know where this review (what publication) was published? I can't remember the source whence it came.
Thank you,
Walter Ramsey

Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.
