HELP! ABRSM Diploma (US STUDENT)
on: August 12, 2006, 01:07:42 AM
Hi, I need help/info concerning the ABRSM Diploma.

I'm a university student (US), majoring is music business but I still take private lessons for piano (once was piano performance). However, I would like to try to get my piano performance DIPABRSM diploma.

The website offers info for international entries for the exams (level 1-8) but are not to clear concerning the US entries for the Diploma's. I know there are prerequisties in order to take the DIPA and confuse whether I can just take it based on performance history or do i have to take level 8. Also do I have to go to england to do my recital or go to one of these so call reps/centers in the US? Cost fees? I need help if someone has done this before.

In the ABRSM system you can enter for any grade exam you like without previously having done a lower grade.  If you think you can fulfil the requirements then go for it, you are paying the entry fee, which is quite steep I believe. (also the failure rate is high ...!)
I can't answer the other part of your question sorry. If you go to the abrsm. org website and go into exam regulations/ international exam regulations you will find a list of local representatives in the US.

Its around £125 to enter,
you need grade 5 theory, and should have grade 8, but im sure you can do it without grade 8, but you need grade 5 theory.

Check my post on the teaching board regarding pre-req. The fees go up each year. In 2003, it was close to $150. In April 2006, the LRSM level cost over $500. Best way is to check with your rep.
