Help! What's wrong with my computer?
on: August 12, 2006, 04:20:43 PM
I'm really really really fed up with my computer being retarded.  I keep trying to record stuff, and I get these pain in the @$$ dropouts all over the place.  It's ridiculous.  I have no idea what the problemm is.

I am using Adobe Audition 1.5.  I have tried different sample rates, different resolutions, different buffer sizes.  I know it is not my USB equipment/microphone.  I have tried shutting down all background processes; everything except SYSTEM processes.  Nothing seems to work.

I have attached a recording made today of Chopin's Etude in G# minor (Thirds), Op. 25 No. 6.  I'm not looking for comments about the quality; I know how it came out.  I was wondering if anybody could diagnose what is wrong by listening to it.

I don't know about the computer, but I know what's wrong with your piano: it desperately needs a tuner.

Defrag your hard drive.  Run Ad-Aware and Spybot.  Unplug all USB devices except mic.  Unplug all firewire devices.  Unplug your USB hub, and connect the mic directly to your computer.

If you need more turn off Yahoo, AIM, MSN, torrents, anti-virus, software firewall, and deactivate your wireless network card.

If you still need more go here and follow some tweak settings:

If you still need more do a search optimising the XP services list.  You may want to search for the "black viper" recomended list.

In Audition go to settings > system tab.  Increase your buffer and cache sizes.  Select your biggest partitions for a temporary folder.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
