need help buying a digital piano
on: August 16, 2006, 07:59:58 AM
I'm looking to buy a digital piano that has the same weight and feel when pressed as a acoustic piano.  Also wondering what the lowest price they come around.

I was told that no digital can feel or sound the same as an accoustic. (Almost maybe, but never the same)

Regards.

i see.. i already have a acoustic piano downstairs but i want one in my room and it'd be rather hard to move it up stairs haha.. I wanted a digital piano because on a acoustic piano i can't play at night becuase everyones sleeping.  As long as the feeling is close to the same its good enough for me.  So can anyone help me?

Hi, I purchased a Yamaha P-60. It has the weighted keys and plays much like a real piano. I think that this model has been discontinued but, the P-70 replaced it. I travel and obviously can't take my piano on the road with me. I find that I can plug in the earphones and play until the wee hours and disturb no-one. I play on a Knabe upright when at home and prefer it but, gotta use the digital if I want to practice on the road. I did a lot of research on the different models and this one was by far the best feel. It was in the 600.00 range new. Hope this helps you, good luck.

I am not so good at digital pianos but I think it like buying a computer. If you want better sound you will need to invest in a better soundcard. If you want better graphic you need to invest in more high-tech graphic card, or memory or hard-drive & so on.

As for digital piano, I think it will cost alot of $$$ to get something similar to an accoustic. You pay for the technology. Infact, I was told a really good digital piano can be as or more expensive than a decent accoustic.

I think you should shop around and try the various brands available. Check & Compare the specification of each model. See which you need and which you don't. I think digital piano will have more information than an accoustic piano.
Regards.

Jinn,

I forgot to mention. I know pianodisc or qrs have quiet-time gadget. It can be install into your piano. So when you need to be quiet you just turn on the gadget and listen thru head-set. I was told the hammers will not strike the strings. I think it cost the same or less than buying a digital piano. (Of course please find a certified installer)

About piano moving to your room. I guess if you can find a professional piano movers, moving up is not a major problem.
Regards.

how is that possible? thats pretty cool don't understnad how it would actually work though. haha if the hammer isn't hitting the string it basically just changes into a digital piano no? thats pretty interesting but i think i'ma go invest in the yamaha p 60 or 70 or w/e it is , it jus happans to be what i want all in one.  The sound probably can't match up to an acoustic but thats ok I just want something with close enough feel to one and portable enough to bring around.
