Liszt Feux Follets

This and some Vine have been my summer project. I recorded it using my MP3  player so be prepared for some freaky harddrive noises.

It needs to be refined and mysterious, like a will-o'-the wisp.  Try listening to Kissin's, Duchable's, or Berezovsky's recordings to get an idea of its character.  That's what's most important.  Good job on hitting the notes.

Congrats!  Nice work on this piece.  I listened to it several times and really enjoyed it.  You handle the double notes with the required delicate touch.  Your dexterity is marvelous too.  I also like your handling of those LH melodies.  Probably you need to achieve a bit more evenness in some places and to bring out the melodic elements a little more in others over the filligree.  But you're definitely going in the right direction.  This is a most difficult piece to play.  You deserve a lot of credit!  One of the recordings I particularly like is Jorge Bolet's.  While he took risks in recital, he was more cautious making recordings, so he was never quite as exciting in his recordings.  Nonetheless, his Feux Follets is impecable.  Keep up the good work!

I've been working it up again and remembered that I had posted this here. I made another recording of this yesterday (warning - more harddrive noises). Did some weird things that I didn't like and it's not especially clean but overall it's pretty solid. I'd appreciate any comments (especially helpful negative ones).

Thanks! Nice to have encouragement as I've been working in a bubble pretty much with no teacher.

I now have a very nice microphone (first two were from an mp3 voice recorder) and the piano will soon be tuned so expect a high quality recording of this and some other stuff in the next 10 days or so.

I have to say I enjoyed the first recording of the piece over the second - not from the standpoint of audio quality but moreso from the actual performance. It felt more secure in the first recording than the second - I felt you rushed too many sections in the second one.

Very good work considering your working without a teacher - obviously you have a refined technique and have good dexterity in both hands. I would encourage you to continue practising it slowly as well as at your performance speed to make sure that you make the rapid figures more concrete and clear. I also felt that you could bring out left hand counter melodies a little more (eg bar 18-29, 72-83).

It sounded very impressive, though. You'll be happy to get that top F tuned
