How much sheet music do you have on your computer?

Just a friendly question. Let me count mine......

Oh my gd....

126 pdf files  . Of course for some of you this number is considered small (I can name one person, hehe). I got these after lots of collecting (and weeks of waiting). Who wants to share how much you've got?

simple versions are rare i never see them anywhere :/
but having lots of sheets doesnt mean one can play very well
My budget has always been tightly limited so i couldnt start playing piano as I was little.

Anyway, I dont collect it much, but I'd love to have the money to actually collect the real paper versions.

you mean 20-30 GB right? btw i have played a very small fraction of mine, but its good to have for reference. ive gotten my sheetmusic from libraries, stores, generous people, forum sites, p2p sites, and others i cant remember.

Mine is SMALL. About 1400 files...including books, not a lot though...in only 1.28 GB...THATS SMALL..How on earth these guys get so much? Well I only have from composers who I am familiar with or have heard recently.

How do you store your info in case of a crash? AAHHH. Sorry to scare ya. But it happens. Someone had 100 GB of audion and lost it ALL. No backup.

I read somewhere that a digital file only last for 7-9 years before it got corrupt one way or another. Never said how they got those results though...

I'm quite positive that's wrong. Digital data doesn't deteriorate. The only danger we face in storing digital files is that the media we use to evoke these files with, for example a 3,5" floppy disk drive, are are no longer for sale in less than a decade. New computers with new hardware take over for the obsolete methods.

But storing PDFs on an external hard drive is quite safe. Yet, if you have had an external hard drive for 5 years, it can possibly be easily broken, and you may lose your files.

Storing important data on a local computer is bad. A lot of things could happen to a computer. Viruses, hard drive failures, and so on.

It's therefore recommended to take backups once in a while. At least every 5 years.

I have about 130, but I have a CD somewhere that has about 100 on it.

I have almost 30 GB of scores on my computer, about 20,000 scores.

I download everything into a "Not backed up" folder.

At the end of a month, I copy the folder to a DVD .

Once the scores are backed up, I move them to my "Sheet Music" folder.

I think it's a big mistake to trust an external hard drive as the only backup.

They are known to crash with alarming regularity.

Check out the reviews on amazon and newegg.

The Seagate 500 GB is only about $120., but they're not too reliable.

As Professor Moody says, "CONSTANT VIGILANCE!".

I wish i knew, it is a silly thing to do really. Ever since i was a kid i have loved collecting.

When I was a kid i collected milk bottle tops, now it is scores.

I have nothing for guitar.

Well, I've collected anime cards, books, cds... but not so much as to put anyone out of business. And I stop collecting one thing when I am collecting another thing. So I don't get to accumulate so much that everthing can't be organized. 

Now it's music books and sheets. Aside from piano, I got 1 violin book and 5 guitar. Basic stuff. Plus loads of pop music that I don't know; I didn't buy those, they were given to me.

How do you sort your sheet music? By era, genre, composer? Title or opus numbers? By difficulty?

Yes, please! Why sell scores when they're supposed to be public domain? And why sell for unreasonable prices?

Classical and romantic piano is more than enough to keep me going.

I have almost emptied every UK library of 19th century piano concerti, and that has taken me 5 years. I don't scan these though, so no good for ruining the e bay sellers.
