Schumann and Chopin (Recital)
on: September 04, 2006, 01:59:50 PM
Hello everyone. This is the first post I make in this forum. As I used to have another username before (can't remember my username/password) I had to make a new one. Just to give you a short presentation of me: I'm a 19 years old norwegian pianostudent, who started to play when I was about 9-10 years old. Among other things, I've played with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra (Beethoven: The second concerto, 1 mov), and competed in the national pianocompetition, which I won when I was 14). Anyway, I'll let this recording, from a recital last winter, speak for me. I hope you all like it. I will add more files later, but feel free to give me feedback!

1. Schumann: Abegg-variations, op. 1
2. Chopin: Nocturne Db-major, op. 27 no 2

Cheers, Hauk

P.S. I was suppose to add the "Tempest"-sonata by Beethoven, but the file-size didn't allow it. But I can add it later, don't have time now. Gotta go practising ;D

No comments at all? ???

Iīm not sure why I havenīt got any comments at all during these days, and Iīm sorry if my tone in my first post was a little arrogant, didnīt mean to sound that way (Just wanted to show that I was a serious guy). Anyway, I did post this on here to get some feedback, as it would be great to hear someone elses opinion on my play. Cheers!

If you wish, I can add the "tempest"-sonata by Beethoven, recorded from the same recital tomorrow?

Hi, Hauk. Congratulations. Maybe the silence is because those who has heard you before, wanted to say something truly important or to suggest something deep, and not simply to declare that you played well. Me too, but I fail and only can say that I heard the nocturne and I liked very much, it sounds to me quite professional, a high level version, and I hope to play as you do, and of course I hope to hear more of your art.

the first variation sounds just a tiny bit frenetic.  but, then, the second is really cool.  the 'filler' or middle part sounds too loud to me - overshadowing the theme in some places - but you surely have FAST fingers.  i can't believe the third variation.  wow!  that's super.  really amazing! you have some humor to your playing, too, with the little touch of rubato in the fourth.  you bring out the eusebius and floristan - or whomever is supposed to come out at whatever time.

i must compliment you, too, on the treble tuning of the piano.  i like the sparkly quality and sounds.  the bass is too sharp, imo.  if one goes by violin tuning, the higher one gets the more slightly sharp - but that's just my particular wierdness coming out.

i LOVE how you bring out two motives (themes) at the same time in the last of the variations.  that is so cool!

I liked them all, but I don't play these pieces, nor had I ever listened to them. But, as a first listening to these pieces, I must say you're a very good pianist and everything sounds really well.
My post is just to contribute. Sometimes people don't answer for the same reasons as I didn't. They don't know the piece/s.
Anyway, keep up the good work, and upload the tempest sonata please.

Take care,
Gonzalo

I listened to the Chopin--LOVED it.  You play beautifully.  You really achieve the lovely liquidity that makes this piece so special.  (Try the Berceuse next--you will be fabulous with it !)

And do post the Beethoven.  :)
