split damper pedal
on: September 08, 2006, 06:38:24 PM
I was watching a video on historical (Badura-Skoda), and I at some point they were talking a piano (I think it was a Broadwood?) with a split damper pedal. This made it possible to play a staccato LH with a legato RH (or the opposite). Was there a specific name for that type of pedal (I would call it a split damper), was it ever a "standard" practice," and how long were they being made/used? Any information/resources would be appreciated. New Grove didn't turn up much. But maybe I just didn't look in the right place.

When you earnestly believe you can compensate for a lack of skill by doubling your efforts, there's no end to what you can't do.
