final polish on a piece
on: January 22, 2004, 04:55:59 PM
I will be doing a very short performance this Saturday.  What do you do to help make sure that you don't mess up badly in a performance?  I usually just play it quite a few times slowly two days before, a couple times slowly the day before, and then don't touch the piano the morning of a performance.

I think Piotr Anderszewski has some interesting things to say (albeit briefly) regarding danger in performance on The Art of Piano (and he is Polish so it is even more relevant to the title of the thread ;D),

I got a chuckle out of your comment, Ed.  Then again, I often do.

Sleep does help one's concentration, that's a good point.  I know it may seem silly, but before I begin a chess match, I always drink some orange juice to provide some sugar.  I wonder if such a thing would be good for piano?

hmm, since the brains are very hard at work maybe some dextrose (ehm i'm not sure if i use the correct english word here   ??? ..) can do some good... I'm not sure though.
But dextrose is like fuel to the brain.
It's also for sale as dextro-energy.. don't know if you know it?

Try recording yourself.  You will experience the same additional pressure as at your performance because you know the recorder is running.  And you can listen to your recording afterward to find the last few things that need to be fixed.
