Beethoven's "eroica" theme
on: October 10, 2006, 05:51:08 PM
I am doing a bit of research into beethoven's use of the same theme in multiple works - the Eroica variations theme, which is also used in his 3rd Symphony. I understand this same theme, or parts of it, were also used in one of his Contradances, and also in the Creatures of Prometheus? Does anyone know for sure? If so, which dance was it? Are all of them in the same key? Does anyone know why he liked that theme so much?

Getting there, for those who are interested. I am not yet sure of the order of events, but the "eroica" theme was used as a dance in Creatures of Prometheus ballet, Dance #7 of the Contra Dances WoO 14, then the "eroica" variations, only named that way AFTER he wrote the Eroica Symphony!
For some reason he really liked that theme - it's cute, but really!
