Hamamatsu Competition
on: October 10, 2006, 11:07:55 PM
Hi guys,

i believe the next Hamamatsu is only just around the corner and it seems they will be doing some kind of live streaming of the participants.. Do any of you more technologically minded folks understand the full implications of this?? If so please explain for the benefit of all. Sounds exciting.

Is this in Japan? It must be considering the name.

Gorlatch = the winner!

Congratulations Sir!

Huangci did ok didnt she..She is getting better all the time.  I have to say I thought Dinara was hard done by by not reaching the final, she was a very refined artist, especially for one so young.  Mr Kitamura did exceptionally well too!! I mean he's 15. TO hold up so well through so many rounds  - all credit to him.

Kuznetsov came 2nd! - a shame, I personally would have liked to see him take it as I thought he had the edge over Gorlatch (considering all the previous rounds).

Yeah... when I checked the site and she was the first contestant in the third round I'm like NO.  Ha, the first person never goes to the next round. :(

Oh well.  She played her repertoire better than in the E-competition, which makes me happy.

No surprise that Huangci lost...I just listened to the first two minutes of her third round program (Bach-Busoni Chaconne), and it was DEAD boring.  I'm listening to the K333 Sonata played by Wang (also aged 16) and it is far better.

Huangci has phenomenal technique, but I dislike her tone and interpretation. Her sound is not full or rich. It may be just me, but her expression does not seem natural. But she is still a great 16-year-old talent.
On the other hand, I was very impressed with 17-year-old Dinara Nadzhafova. There is an artistic personality! Her beautiful sound was also effortless.
I am a little skeptical about the fairness of the judging in the Hamamatsu competition. The former teacher (Prof. Kaemmerling) of the winner, Alexej Gorlatch, was in the jury.
Even on the Hamamatsu Competition's website, it is written in a press release:
"Prof. KAEMMERLING said, "It's very special that my student has become a Finalist. All the three Finalists have done great accomplishments this evening."" (https://www.hipic.jp/eng/news_topics/news/news_06-1125-4.html)

True, her third round really sucked.  Oh well.

Agreed Dinara is fantastic. A shame she didnt go through. I honestly favoured her over Huangci but that's life.

I haven't heard much of Dinara; I only listened to her Op.10 Chopin Etudes. Yes, she has very nice technique and effortless interpretation. However, I daresay, it was too effortless to the point of glibness. Her touch really lacked much depth and her musical phrasing was refined but uninspired.
generally working on:
Bach Toccata in g minor
Rachmaninoff 3rd Concerto
