Suggestions for a good piano to buy?
on: January 25, 2004, 05:35:51 AM
Hey everybody, I know this thread should be in the instrument section but not enough ppl go there so I'm going to ask you guys. :)

Anyway, all my life I've had a Mason and Risch, really old, "piece" (cracked keys, out-of-tune 5 min after the tuner leaves...lol), and my parents and I are looking into buying a used piano. Something that sounds great and has a great feel to playing it is what I'm looking for (but aren't we all). Nothing over about $5000 CDN, which is around $3500 US dollars. I have no clue what companies are good, or even what types of pianos are the best. Nothing electric. Suggestions, suggestions, suggestions!!!
Please!!

Thanks in advance,
TS

Hi,

I think the best would be for you to play on the piano before buying.  It's really a matter of your personal perference for the touching and tonality.

My piano tuner once told my family that most pianos are either good in tone/touch.  The more expensive ones (German/European) are good in both, however, you can't have the best of both worlds with a limited budget.

You don't mean tonality,

I suggest that instead of asking us, who don't know you or your tastes really, you should go to a major piano dealer, and ask their opinion.  They are professionals and I wouldn't be suprised if they were willing to help you find a piano that's not in their store for a fee, or perhaps they could point you to another dealer with what you're looking for.
