Anyone here have a Nintendo DS?
on: October 24, 2006, 09:59:37 PM
I recently bought a slick black DS Lite and it's awesome! Bought it with Dr.Kawashima's Brain Training, and Tetris DS, Super Mario 64 DS and Kirby Painter are on the way! Play.com is wickid 8)

Any one else have one? If so, what games do you have, and can you recommend any?

Ah Pokemon, what a crazy Japanese fad. ::) I remember getting Pokemon Yellow in Canada and having all my friends marvel at me playing with my little Pikachu following behind me everywhere I went 8) When Ruby and Sapphire came along, the sheer amount of new Pokemon there were to be caught was too much for me, and some of them were so blatantly pushed out of a completely drained creative mind. There was one that was a cow, and had 'Milk Attack' I recall. How creative ::)

I remember finding it extremely hard in Pokemon yellow to get past the first gym (Brock's gym, all rock creatures) because Pikachu is electric, and I had to catch the pidgeon and rat Pokemon (can't remember their names) and spend ages levelling them up just to beat the gym. God that was a boring part of my life :-[

Pac-Pix, for the DS, looks like an awesome game! You draw your own pacman to eat up the ghosts, and can draw a bigger pacman to defeat bigger ghosts - how cool!

P.S. I doubt you'd be able to find an emulator for DS games without getting a touch screen monitor. Unless it uses the mouse click to emulate touching the screen, could be possible.

d00d, you had to catch a Caterpie and train it to level 10 so it would evolve in a butterfree which learned confusion and pwned the geodude and onix to infinity!
I remember having problems going to Saffron city, the guard wouldn't let me pass because the sucker was thirsty. After some time (note, I was pretty young and my English was not really developed) I discovered you could give him something to drink and he would let you pass :D .

Anyways, there are 3 GBA's here, but no DS.

24 :D But was 37 at first, so I think I've progressed well in 3days! I'm loving the sudokus as well! My best time for one of the beginner ones was 5mins40s, but I haven't gone onto the intermediate ones yet: I'm waiting until I complete all the beginner ones. Do you have any other games Jam?

Kassaa, d0000d lol, did you ever catch a Mew?? I remember missing my chance cos I didn't have a master ball and getting so pissed off that I turned it off not realising that I hadn't saved it in ages, and had to do the previous hour or so of work again! And when you're trying to get somewhere and wild pokemon keep wanting to battle you... god I wanted to destroy the thing! haha :D

i never played any of those ruby and sapphire + later ones, but i always thought it was impossible to catch mew, since there is no mew in the game? (perhaps you meant mewtwo, which has to be caught by master ball, apparently)

Some time ago I catched a mew! There's a glitch that actually works, which will make a lvl7 Mew pop up!

Mew Glitch

Step 1: You must not beat Misty (Leader # 2) or any of the trainers in her gym yet and you must not battle the person in the grassy area past the Nugget Bridge.

Step 2: You must have at least one free space for your Pokemon and also have around 20 Poke balls. You must also have a Pokemon that knows Teleport and maybe a weak Pokemon in the Levels 10 and one more thing, you must use the Poke Center before you go, these things are very important.

Step 3: Go past the Nugget Bridge and turn right and now save your game. Now here is the tricky part. Be in the position where the trainer isn't on your screen, but when you take one step foward, he will have the "!" over his head. If you quickly press start, it will take you to the Item Screen. Teleport out of there, and when you do, you will notice that you will teleport and the trainer will be walking towards you.

Step 4: You will end up in front of the Poke Center but the only thing is that you can't access your Item Screen. Now head for the Gym immediatly!

Step 5: Battle a Trainer in here. I dont know if you should fight Misty or not but you must win the fight. If you kept a good Pokemon like Pikachu, you should win.

Step 6: After the fight, you can access the Item Screen again. Head for the Nugget Bridge again.

Step 7: As soon as you enter the Nuget Bridge, your Item Screen will pop up automatically. Press the cancel button and you will enter a battle with... MEW!

Step 8: Mew is only at Level 7 I think but is extremely tough to capture. Make sure you don't kill him and make sure you dont run out of Poke balls. If you do one of them, you can just Load your game and retry again. Eventually you will capture him.

I tried it, I could even trade it to gold and silver! Really, pokemon Gold+Silver must be the best games ever made 8) .

Kony, there is no Mew in Red or Blue, but there is in versions from Yellow onwards to the best of my knowledge.

Kassaa, did you have Pokemon Stadium on the N64? I remember using the transfer pack to put my Mew in the game and beat all my friends pokemon!
Henrah

EDIT: I've just realised that the cartridges for portable games are getting more sophisticated and yet getting smaller! Gameboy cartridges were quite big, Gameboy Advance cartridges were smaller, and the DS cartridges are even smaller!! I don't quite understand it... when will they bring back the big and chunky N64 cartridges which make a wicked sound when you blow into to them to try to get them to work?

Nope, never had a N64, I just used the glitch I posted for getting Mew!

N64's were awesome, especially Super Mario 64! I'm getting the DS version of this soon, but play.com are taking soooo long to deliver!! Tetris was posted on Monday and I still don't have it today!

Plus I'm trying to setup a WiFi connection for Metroid Prime Hunters (which I borrowed off of a friend) and the stupid DS can connect to the access point but not to the server. Harafiggulmermuguru... *mumbles off into mild frustration*

That doesnt matter because its such a good game anyway. i dont think it was that hard to finish but if you want to get all of the stars some are almost impossible to get...
...well they are for me. normaly i just got to figure out things like walk around to fire instead of through the fire... :P   great game!

They need to make a Pokemon MMORPG for the PC. Not that I would play that. But the concept is perfect for such a game.

Jam, what are the controls like in Super Mario 64 DS? Can you use the touch screen to move around? And if so, is it harder than it was with the 360 joystick on the N64 controller? I've been playing Metroid Prime Hunters and I find it very hard to comfortably play with my left hand moving with the d-pad and firing with the left shoulder trigger whilst using the stylus in my right hand.

you can use the touch screen to move around but its hard to control. you can also move the normal way and i found that a lot easier.  apart from moving i dont think you have to use the touch screen that much on this game.  at least you get to choose how to move.  :)

As if this is not disturbing enough, knowing that fellow members of the forum are actively indulging in a game of "Pokemon", please stop referring to the console as "DS", for obvious reasons.

I don't know of any obvious reasons you're reffering to Debu....

Aaahh I see, DS for Debussy Symbolism! Sorry, but I prefer typing out DS than DualScreen, and it's quicker and easier to read. Is DS well known on these forums to mean you personally?

Unless DS means something else, but I can't think what...

Ok. Well, from now on in this topic, DS will mean the Nintendo portable console only and not refer to Debussy Symbolism. If Debussy Symbolism is to be referred to, refer to him (I asume you are a male) as anything apart from DS which is accepted by the user himself (DebSym, Debussy Symbolism, DSymbolism, DebussyS etc etc etc).

DS in this thread = Nintendo Dual Screen portable console.
DS everywhere else = Debussy Symbolism, unless preceeded by Nintendo.

I have an original DS. i used the d-pad because i found the touch screen hard to use. you drag the stick across the the and then but you have to lift it up and move it back to the other side and do it again so the chartacter on the screen walks a bit then stops.  I dont mind using the d-pad either so its much better to use for me.

Is the d-pad ok even though it's not similar to the 360joystick from the N64? I mean, are there times that it lets you down with its straight directions and lack of sensitivity?

I dont really mind using the D-pad. Sometimes  it doesnt go everywhere i want it to but i dont mind. Probably because im used to using it from playing other games.

Well Jam, I got Super Mario 64 DS this morning and I'm loving it, especially the mini games! Also I found out that, when using the stylus, where you touch the screen a yellow circle appears with a red circle inside it. Moving the stylus to any point in the yellow circle will make the character move, and keeping it in the same place will keep the character moving that same direction and pace, there's no need to drag it all the way to the top of the screen.

Saying that, it is a lot easier using the d-pad, but it's so uncomfortable on a Lite. My thumb absolutely kills after playing for just a little while. What I do like is sometimes using the stylus in my RH and the d-pad for jumping, crouching and the like.
