New music
on: October 30, 2006, 07:59:06 PM
First I would ike to say how pleased I am with Piano Street.  I have been playing many pieces that I had not had a chance to play before as the price for the music was too high,  For example to purchase just the Scarlatti Sonatas posted on Piano Street would cost hundreds of dollars ... that is.... if you could find the books in a store.

The quality of the scans and the care taken is exceptional.

I do have a question.   I noticed that the average number of new pieces has gone down to the point where it is not even near the advertised number of new pieces.... even if you average in months when much has been added....  I could be in error here -- correct me if I am wrong.

Glad that you find the forum to be of value! I hope very much that you continue to do so.

No - not in error, methinks - and no corrections necessaary - but let's just think for a moment about why that might be - and, if mere thinking does not lead immediately to the answer, then why not PM the forum owner, nilsjohan and ask him about this?...

Best,

I am glad you find our sheet music library useful!  ;)

The quality of the scans and the care taken is exceptional.

Well, we are privilegied to have Henrik (our chat moderator) as the Managing Director of the Piano Street scanning department.  ;) With almost 15 000 scanned pages of sheet music under his hands he for sure knows how to handle a scanner.

I do have a question.   I noticed that the average number of new pieces has gone down to the point where it is not even near the advertised number of new pieces.... even if you average in months when much has been added....  I could be in error here -- correct me if I am wrong.

You are perfectly right.
There were several months since the last major update which is far too much.
The reason is that we have had serious problems with the scanners. We use a special model which is optimal for scanning sheet music and the first one we had lasted for more than 13 000 pages before it broke down. I guess that is fair enough, but it's successors have been unbelievably weak in comparision. We have since then consumed four other scanners which have only lasted for 3-20 hours each before they died and the manifacturer keep sending us replacement copies without beeing able to tell why they break. So now the Piano Street office is mainly occupied by a pile of broken scanners...  ;D

All this has of course slowed down the addition of scanned pages but on the other hand we have still been able to produce our own type set editions and urtexts as well as many recordings so you can look forward to an exciting update within a couple of weeks.

I am sorry if I have misinterpreted "adagio1"'s intended meaning of the term "new music" here in the context of what is posted to and available from this forum; I had initially assumed that he/she was referring to music that was itself "new" as distinct from music of any era that is newly posted here.

Another month has passed since I made the observation that there was no new sheet music being posted...... this makes it a long time since users have had any official (to all members) comments about this.   As I understand it, some members pay a few dollars a month and others pay a yearly fee to download music here.  As the site provides a real bargain in music it makes sense that those paying should show patience if there are troubles scanning or the like.   By now I would think the scanning problem should be solved.
What is the status of the site?  Are there to be refunds?  Is there to be a real explanation?  I do not think I deserve the world because I paid a small yearly fee, but I do think explanations are in order.   Is there a copyright problem?  Is there a problem that if made public may help site users understand what is going on?
On Oct 30th we were told that some music would be forthcoming in a major new post in a few weeks.   It is now Dec 7th....
Once again...... I have really got my moneys worth here but it would be nice to know .... what is going on?  The silence is not a good thing.  ;D

Silence can indeed be a good thing.
Those "coulple of weeks" as been slightly stretched and I am sorry for not keeping you updated but now we are rather talking about days...
Thanks for your patience!  :)

The new music added in December is terrific.  A great deal of work here.   A variety of style and levels.   Thankyou.  I also like the new look of some of the site pages.  Piano Street remains one of the best values on the internet.  ---

The fact that I can now read music that I never had the chance to read before has given me new interest in several different composers..... ie  Grieg... Bach conc etc ( I now play about half the lyric pieces as well as others.... I love them) .   So again.....  Thanks  :D
