Chamber Concerti - what's easy?
on: November 07, 2006, 01:25:41 AM
Looking for chamber concerti that are not so difficult, but not necessarily Baroque.  What Mozart concertos require small ensembles?  or would be succesful?  Is there anything more interesting hidden in the dusty corners of the repertoire?  Any ideas would be helpful.  Or any pieces for piano and string ensemble (but not quartet, too small).  Thanks!

The Mozart cmaj k415 concerto can be performed with a SQ and piano, but if you don't want quartets - all of them before 16 only require oboes, horns and strings.  (except 10 and 8 coz you need another piano).
There was a similar thread about this not long ago.  There's a schnittke concerto for piano and strings, Bloch concerto grosso with piano obbligato.
Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.

Hi Walter,

I asked a similar question last year, and Bernhard gave me this excellent and very extensive list:

My personal suggestions might be Mozart PC no 9 (K271) which requires only 2 oboes and 2 bassoons aside from strings, or Mozart PC no 14 (K449), requiring only strings, with the winds optional.  (These are not terribly easy to play, but certainly doable.)

Good luck and much enjoyment!
Teresa
