Best recital you have attended
on: November 15, 2006, 01:20:29 AM
Somebody has started a string in Performance about the best performance experience they have had (and why)

I would like to do the same only with the subject being the best recital you have attended, and why was it the best. When I thought about it I was surprised that it was not a bigger name who had brought me the most pleasure at a recital.

I really enjoyed the following recitals:

Brendel playing Diabelli in the Concertgebouw  :)

Hewitt playing Goldberg at Alnwick Castle  :D

Piers Lane playing Schumann’s Carnival also at Alnwick Castle  :)

But, my favorite performance experience was recently. It was after a mixture of Bach and Shostakovich preludes and Fugues as well as some American and South American pieces, played by Joanna Macgreggor at the Brinkburn Priory. It was all good but the encore of Libertango by Piazzola sent shivers down my spine like I have not experienced in a long time and had me on the edge of my seat.  :o  It had people standing up to see what she was doing at the keyboard (and on the case of the piano!). It is the most entertained I have ever been at a recital, which is why I go I suppose.

(As ever, please ignore my spelling mistakes)

carl cranmer's in philly.  he played a simple program of some nocturnes (faure, and the like) and chopin.  i really enjoyed the recital because it was in a ballroom and not a large concert hall.  the chairs were right around the piano and it was an intimate setting.  you could feel the vibrations.

An exciting memory for me was a long ago recital of Rudolf Firkusny playing the Beethoven Sonata Op 53.

My professor performing the Rach 3 as the winner of a concerto competition.  Such a victory and accomplishment for her.  I was so proud!

May be the final round of the Elisabeth competition. I saw the winner (Severin Von Eckardstein performing Porkofievs 2nd pianoconcerto) and Wen Yu Shen (performing Rach3, and he became 2nd, you can watch this performance on Youtube).

After the concert, we had the proclamation where they said who won the competition. A very nice experience and athmosphere.
Currently learing:
- Chopin: Ballade No.3
- Scriabin: Etude Op. 8 No. 2
- Rachmaninoff: Etude Op. 33 No. 6
- Bach: P&F No 21 WTC I

This was a concert rather than a recital, but it was Bruno Gelber playing the Rachmaninov #3.

My "favorite" recital was a married couple who did a repertoire of Organ Duet pieces, and pieces for Organ and Piano. Extremely interesting, very musical. I wish I could remember their names. It was awesome though.

You must be student of Professor Naoumoff.
You are undergrad or grad?
