Digital Piano (Yamaha p250 or CP300?)
on: November 19, 2006, 08:29:25 AM
If you people still remember, I was asking some people which one to choose; a p70/140/250. I asked my dad about buying a P250 at first and he didn't seem to mind the price too much. I mentioned the price to be around $2500cnd but I found out that the CP300, which I THINK replaces the P250, costs around $2600cnd. I also found out in a nearby tom lee store that a P250 now costs $2100cnd, which was labelled the guaranteed lowest price. Now, I'm not really sure what the major differences between these two are, aside from the fact that I can record more songs, and have aux pedals for the CP300, not to mention people think the sound of the CP300 is better than the P250.\

The main question is: are the differences between the P250 and the CP300 worth the $500cnd difference?

Hi ilikepie,

You are right .....many leading stores no longer carry the P250. However, my Froogle search gave me its availabity for under $ 2000 at quite a few stores, the cheapest of which is

samedaymusic   $1,899.00

The CP 300 has 50 panel voices (as against the P 250's lesser - 38 - voices) and an USB connection to your PC (as against the old fashioned serial port/8 pin mini DIN - TO HOST- connection of the P 250). The latter is for me of utmost importance, since  for stage shows I use a Laptop and today there is practically no new laptop with the old serial - 9 pin - port!)

The standard price for the CP 300 seems to be $2199.99 - again Froogle search.

So by all means go for the CP 300 at the above price -  the same at which you were ready to buy the P 250 from the stores near you!

First and foremost, thank you for your time in replying to my thread. I appreciate it.

Is this site not for US citizens, thus in US$? I would have bought the piano yesterday, settling for the p250, which was the only thing available in the closest store, but my dad, at the last minute, was mad at me for no apparent reason(I first mentioned wanting the CP300,  but did not mention it was not in the nearer store, but the one an hour away.) He apparently got so mad(for my 'indecisiveness' that he said that if I was not sure that I wnted to buy it, then I should just not buy it.) I mean seriously, it is almost the same(or so I thought). :( Now the only way he's going to buy it is if I lose 15 pounds in a month, and play the piece I'm currently playing (Liszt HR no.11) perfectly(relatively :P). I guess he wants to get something out of it too, if he's buying something so expensive.

I agree with you though, CP300 is definitely better. I am only using it at home though, but fell in love with the functions. Definitely, the USB is a major plus. Probably a lot of people would like to borrow the piano for gigs and stuff, since it really is amazing, if you ask me. I will mainly use it for recording, composing, theory(still in harmony 4, thus many completing of 4 voice parts), sight reading(definitely), and practicing at ungodly hours; and of course, playing to my heart's content. I find music an intimate experience, and I am not ready to share it with everyone yet, thus if I can bring my piano in my bedroom(Boston grand 5'10), I would no longer need to buy a digital. Then again, how am I gonna make the piano fit in my room? I hardly have any space for anything. Therefore, I wanted to buy a high end digital, yet portable, piano.

Sorry for my rambling  and ranting. Thank you very much for your comment and recommendations. I believe every cloud has a silver lining, thus my rather unpleasant experience with my dad has resulted in something good, as I will get a CP300, not a P250. Who knows, by then, the price may decrease considerably(hopefully actually), and  maybe improvements might be made. Please excuse my mini-essay containing several grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, and an overload of run-on sentences and made-up words.

CP300 will stay with me until one of us dies.

Hi ilikepie,

I am glad that you are getting the CP 300 - have fun! And thank yourself for the "indecision" on yr part, which proved to be the cause of your Father's reaction!

Three things which I am not clear from your mail are:

1)

Ofcourse this site is for US as well as all the citizens of the world..... and the prices I had quoted were in US$ since you had given in yr mail the prices in US$.

How come you are already USING it at home, when you have not bought it?

I placed $xxxxcnd(cnd=canadian dollars)

So is it not sure that you are getting the CP 300 in the near future?

I will get it, even if it kills me ;) All it takes is 15 pounds and my HR#11 to be secure. A small price to pay if I'm going to get that wonder music contraption.

How come you are already USING it at home, when you have not bought it?

Grammar mistake, sorry. I should have placed "will be playing it at home". I should have slept at that time, because my post contains a lot of things that don't make sense. Sorry :P

Hi ilikepie!

Thanks for the explanations - Sorry I missed the "cnd"!

Reducing 15 pounds for the CP300 can be easily achieved - as I did it myself:

1) I Exercise regularly - a simple 45 minutes or 3 miles walk daily is enough - no Gyms needed!

2)I have cut off all sugar - especially the bottled drinks. Also no butter and cheese

3) Plenty of fibre ( vegetables, whole wheat, bran etc)

3) Go light on the stomach in the evenings - I skip supper and have a porridge of oats + wheat bran . I use milk - and if it tastes too bland, have sugar free sweetners

All the best!

I am doing all of those except the exercise part. I will start tomorrow perhaps. I will walk instead of bike to my teacher's house. It's around that far methinks. I hope it won't rain though... Thanks for the tips. I kill two birds with one stone if I lose weight.
