annoying sounds ..
on: November 21, 2006, 07:30:10 AM
just wanted to see how many people, if any,,,,, get annoyed with the little metallic, buzzing, squeaking, etc sounds that your piano makes,,

-my piano is in a controlled room,, 48-52% humidity (honestly, it doesn't go any lower)
-kept always in tune,, and service ( 2 year old piano)
-stable temp (76 degrees)
-no sun

Occasionally I get little buzzing sounds from keys, which come and go from time to time.. gets annoying at times especially with the lid open,,

anyone else seen similar issues.??

I did, then I realized it was just my nail cutter being vibrated because it was on the piano. Try to check if there's anything there. If all else fails, try to let a tuner check.
That's the price you pay for being moderate in everything.  See, if I were you, my name would be Ilovepie.  But that's just me.

i've been really happy with my kawaii - but i guess that most older pianos are a little 'unstable' and tend to have 'floppy' action.  the extra action beyond what is necessary is, imo, what makes the most unnecessary noise.  then, we have strings that need tuning and/or don't stay tight.  hammers that are not voiced and pieces of cotton? are making a head of the hammer like a clown's hair, or the hammers are so far gone that we're getting close to wood.

imo, new pianos just sound cleaner and better.  and, the bass buzz can be eliminated by tightening the action, too, right? in the bass.  if it's too wobbly?  sometimes the mostly 'wobbliness' comes when you put the damper pedal down and/or play to 'hammerishly' with your fingers.

thanks for the response,, my piano is near new (about 2 years old) I had my piano serviced/prepped very regularly,  and the certified techs tell me "its a new piano, so you'll hear little ticks and such until it's broken in".  I've had these type of issues before, and the techs straightened it out for me,, it just gets annoying until I have time to schedule an appointment.

the funny thing is that the buzzing comes and go,, few days, you don't hear anything,,, and then you do. and always over the same keys.

its too funny.  I once had a $2,000 upright that made less buzzing/ticking sounds.

It might be sympathetic vibration and something else in the room is buzzing when you play certain notes.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

My piano squeaks like crazy whenever I push the right pedal due to lack of oil in a difficult to reach joint inside
Sometimes I oil it but it usually comes back  after a few days
I am perfectly normal, it is everyone else who is strange.

My piano is 15 years old, well maintained and stuff but I've had odd buzzing in the past - just started suddenly. It came and went and could never work out what it was - after spending ages moving ornaments, metronomes and looking inside for some reasons! Haven't had it for a year or two now though but no idea why!

In the end I put it down to the atmosphere....hope it's not due to global warming otherwise we'll all have buzzing pianos in future!
