What will be left after 5 years of no piano practicing?
on: November 23, 2006, 05:11:24 AM
Hi everyone,
I'm hanging between going abroad to study on a scholarship or staying at my place. What i'm wondering is if i study abroad i have no chance to practice piano (i've learned for 5 years so far). So after 5 years i come back, what will be left in my piano technique? Will my technique decline a lot? And will I have to start all over again?
thanks

If you don't brush your teeth for five years what will happen? How many teeth do you expect to be left. :\ Fortunately, unlike teeth, you can regain your playing, but it will take longer as you will probably forget everything, except for the movement of your hands(you'll most likely forget all notes).

That's the price you pay for being moderate in everything. See, if I were you, my name would be Ilovepie. But that's just me.

Hi,
so why don't you just buy an e-piano at the place you are going to live? If you really want to keep playing there is always a way. Except you are moving to antarctica maybe
.
Besides, i quit playing myself after school (after learning it for about 13years) , for unknown reasons, maybe just a lack of motivation. Cannot understand it from todays point of view. Anyway, i restarted playing and got myself a teacher about 6 years later. Luckily it seemed that i didn't forget much, at least i got my technique up to previous levels a few months later. Now i work very disciplined and am far beyond my previous levels, especially in terms of musicality.
So, even if you may not loose your technique, i wouldn't stop playing for anything.
Regards
