Did anybody experience Martha?
on: November 29, 2006, 05:10:30 PM
I am unbelievably gutted. I knew Martha Argerich was playing Ravel's G Major concerto at the Royal Albert Hall but thought it was in March. I went to book tickets yesterday and found out that it was last friday!

Did anybody go?

I went. I was in the back row, at the very top. I couldn't hear much, the Albert hall is rubbish. I was a very good performance. Although the 1st mvt cadenza some idiot coughed for about 3 minutes spoiling the whole thing!!! So if your on piano street and reading this.....

She did a cool encore, but I don't know what it was, it was Bach or Scarlati I think.

Did it have repeated notes?  it may have been Scarlatti's Sonata k141 in d, which she plays well, imo.

I wansn't able to go, because

1.  I didn't know
2.  If I did, I don't know where
3.  If I knew where, I wouldn't be able to get there.

....

I've seen a video of her playing it though.  Ravel is definatly one of her strong points.

Agreed. There is a concert of Rach 3 at the Royal Festival Hall in February (but it's sold out!) and Louis Lortie is playing Ravel at the Royal Festival Hall later next year. There's lots happening but always on days I'm orking...DOH!!
