pregnant dogs
on: December 05, 2006, 10:26:19 PM
I've been needing to get this off my chest for some time.

As you're all aware, the word b-i-t-c-h gets censored out of posts and replaced with  "pregnant dog".

According to dictionary definitions, as well as being a malicious or disagreeable woman a b-i-t-c-h is a female dog, regardless of whether or not she is pregnant.

In the interests of accuracy, I propose that when censoring the "b"word it should be replaced with "female canine" as opposed to "pregnant dog".

Many people on PF don't speak english as a first language and we shouldn't be giving them dodgy definitions.

Thanks for your time  ;)

I never understood or liked forum censors. I always look for a way to get around them.

the US constitution doesnt have a clause in it saying that "certain" words are prohibited. i dont think other countries have it either. censorship, imo, is jsut stupid.

The censor feature aren't there to comply with US constitution or any other law.
It is there because this forum has members and visitors form varying cultures, age groups etc. and some are more senisitive than others for such words.
It is very common on Internet forums.

Regarding whether the dogs are pregnant or not my advice is to avoid using that word at all.

I was on a different forum a while back and I used a term that has several meanings -- one POSSIBLE meaning is, the male member.

I was NOT using the word for that meaning.

Imagine my astonishment when the read-back on my posting substituted "male thingy."

Just shows how things go wrong when you let geeks do anything ! !
