I think most animals shouldn't be kept as pets.

For example rabbits.

For me fish are interesting animals.

Also parrots and other kinds of birds. But I think they should not be caged and domesticated. It conflicts too much with their natural behavior. But birds are awesome in general.

ewww...

I have a tank full of fish which I decorated nicely. I mixed a few types of tropical fish together and they seem to be doing just fine. I'm having truoble with the platys, they keep hiding in the corner and die.

The skunks are wild. So is the raccoon. They live in our backyard.

The 5 cats, thankfully, are domesticated and get along with the others. Unfortunately, they don't always get along with each other.   :)

i got too sidetracked again.  didn't realize i had a question here.  we named our cat tornado because she was a stray (tortie) and when she finally had a good meal - she was so happy she did all these run around circles, slid across the kitchen floor, hit the wall, came back circled again - whilst we were watching and thinking she came out of a cartoon like 'roadrunner' or something.  and, she didn't do it once - but almost every time she ate for about a year.

i think also, she wasn't used to being treated well.  i think someone tried to drown her because she wouldn't drink if anyone was around.  i'd put the water out - and leave and peek around a corner and she'd drink then.

very funny thal.  yes.  we get along - this cat and i.  my husband is actually the worst of the two of us.  he feeds her by hand.  she follows him around everywhere.  now, about that earwig.  what's his/her name?

"Cats", pianistimo - not "cat's" - and I presume that "intruege" means "intrigue".

Let me first assure you that they are both cats and have been since birth (i.e. not genetically modified).

Secondly, I did not write that I "can't say" their names "on a public forum"; what I can or cannot do is not the same as what I choose to do or not to do.

They're just fine, actually. What I will say is that they are two from the same litter (a litter of just two, as it happens) who will reach the age of 13 next May. What have I "done" to them? Well, fed them, looked after them, taken them to the vet whenever necessary - you know, all the usual things - and do remember the old adage "dogs have masters; cats have servants".

They've each done their fair share of catching wildlife, although when one of them once caught an owl, I was rather surprised; this prompted me to think of "The Owl and the Pussycat: A Very Short Story"...

Not everyone writes quite as much about the personal details of daily life on public fora as does pianistimo, but that, as we have all noted, is her prerogative; she clearly enjoys parading a lot of information about what would otherwise be her private life here. As with music and most other things in life, however, we don't all happen to share the same enjoyments in what we do.

Do we get to hear the parable of the cats next?

I think most animals shouldn't be kept as pets.

For example rabbits.

We have three pet rabbits at our place, and I think that they are very happy.  The alternative to living in their nice warm hutches (more precisely hutches inside much larger cages) with plenty of food, water and attention, would be an early death from Myxematosis or a gun shot  :'(

Plus thee cats (you already know their names) two dogs, two horses, a pony, a number of sheeps and cattle.

Talking of fish tanks, I was in Italy yesterday, and in the restaurant they had a fish tank, with goldfish.  And at the bottom, was a little nativity scene  :)

Who is? You? Pianistimo? Oh, and by the way, it's not Mephisto and MeFausto either.

As a matter of fact, I do know someone who once had two cats and called them Elliott and Aaron because they came from the same place but sounded so completely different - but that's another matter...

Well, Susan dear, to find you having an opposite philosophy is not so strange, is it?! My take on the saying you cite is "familiarity breeds...". And it does, as a rule...

That, chère Suzanne, is for you to decide (or not). In the meantime, I'm not about to be so rude as to "spit" anything out here. Nor have I issued any "directives" (and, after all, had I wanted to do that, I'd have asked my cats to do it)...

trying to change the subject again.  i told you, he named them something he can't say on a public forum.  it did cross my mind that these cat's were named perhaps sigfried and roy?  and - being the 'magic' age of 13 - i wouldn't doubt they could have their own show.

i did not know opus claviscembalisticum was translated 'kitty on the keys.'  cute.  wait.  i vaguely remember you saying that a ways back.  anyhew.  13 is a good old age.  my cat can hardly be touched at 16.  i mean you can't pet her really strongly because i think her bones would break.  she's kinda feeble now.  she likes soft nuzzles around her ears.   she looks young.  i hope i hold up like my cat.  and, she's still takes care of herself.  and, she's always been a 'smart' cat.  she figures things out - and is sort of half human, to me.
