No, the other way around.

Instead of worrying about things for which that were just made up and for which there is no evidence worry about things that one can objectively state that the problem or issue exists and where there is even a possible solution.

Obviously there are many things to worry about, I have talked about them here too.

But that's besides the point. You seem in fear for things for which there is no basis. Don't worry about them. No one gains from it. You are wasting your life; both in time and satisfaction.

Then, when you get rid of your fear inciting superstitions you are free to do and think about whatever you want. You can be involved with the enviroment, poverty, childrens diseases, third world development, possibility of nuclear war.

The point is that you are only harming yourself and not getting anywhere. Don't delude yourself. You are wasting your life. You will regret this one day.

promotheus. She has nothing to regret. You on the other hand, I have no idea where  you are coming from.   Are you your own God? You must be because you think you have all the answers.   Wow.   So tell me where you came from? Where the world started. When are you going to die. What is going to happen to your tomorrow.   You think our whole existence was by happenstance. NO, you have told me you dont' really know how it all started, Ok, so you then agree it started somewhere. So really You don't have the answers to anything really.  You just can't stand the fact that someone might have some faith.  How can you put down what we believe because you don't have solid proof.    You have no proof of how the universe began, but you know it did because we are here.     Bottom line: you won't believe anything that can't be proven to your standards.  And that is you right!   But you can't say we are wrong because you have no proof that we are wrong, do you? NOPE.

yes!  and thal, how did you do that?  i don't recall ever saying that the bible is untrue.  i said, it would make it untrue IF portions were true and portions were false.  i believe the entire word of God is inspired for doctrine, reproof, and instruction in righteousness.  how can one understand if one is not taught.  but, sometimes - as others have said - even churches do not read the entire bible.  just portions.  EVERY word is important.  otherwise Christ himself wouldn't have bothered quoting from the old testament.

now, the argued point here - is irrelevancy in our modern age.  but, how is it irrelevant to the commandments (of which there are 10)  that is what the entire new testament is based on.  reason.  fairness.  equality.  making sure other people don't usurp other's rights - by lying, murder, stealing.  these are basic laws having to do with our neighbors.  and the first four towards God.  i DO think that if these laws which enable our free-wills to operate freely were enforced (by God) then people would be FREE.

free from fear
free from terror
free from distress
free from injustice
free from pain
free from intolerance
so many freedoms that we DON't have today.

I am just saying that Pianistimo should stop terrifying herself with demons and evil spirits and what god may do to her.

It has nothing to do with the questions you asked. I already pointed out that wheneter I have answers to those questions or not has nothing to do with it. Even if I can't even count till 10, demons and evil spirits have never been proven to harm anyone. They don't exist.

I never claimed to be able to predict the future. Why would I be able to do that? Because I said that she will regret fearing things that don't exist?

What would you say to me when I claimed that I want to cut off both my legs because they 'are alien' and 'not part of me'. (this happens)

Then, would I be able to counter you the same way as you attempt to counter me?

Quote

Let me just translate that statement.

Quote
How can you put down what we believe because we don't have solid proof? You can't say we are wrong just because we have no proof.

Amazing statement. So when can you say that someone is wrong?

What about in the court of law? Am I not just applying the same standards that one would apply in the court of law?

Why is religion 'immune' to basic and normal everyday reasoning and truthfinding?

That's what I am saying. I don't have to proof god doesn't exist. You are changing the burden of proof to that of the nonbeliever. Everyone has to believe Unless they can proof they shouldn't. You know that makes no sense. No one in their right mind would accept such reasoning.

Unless it somehow enforces the delusion they desperately cling to so dearly.

(It is not even possible. I though that I already pointed this out. I am getting so frustrated. What is wrong with you people? Don't you people read what I post? Are you somehow not able to understand? Are you guys just being dense? Has religion some blocking mechanism that makes you unaware of the meaning and implications of what I say when the result is that your faith is challenged?)

You need to proof that god does exist. Or accept that the only thing you have is faith. And when it doesn't come to your own view you will in almost all cases agree with me that having faith is silly.

Honestly, everytime I read those amazing and desperate attempts of reaoning I feel sorry for you theists. It just bluntly proves that you know your views are unreasonable even better than I do.

3) it's just a glass of water

That's how it goes. Debating with christians about christianity is like smashing your head against a high quality steel wall.

We aren't talking about half full or half empty. That's something totally different.

You say there is a glass. I say you are wrong because you have no evidence or no reason to claim there is a glass.

It seems that all christians are so conditioned with the idea that there is a god they don't realise that they are making an extraordinary claim that requires extraordinaty evidence.

I am making no claim. I am merely doubting those of theists.

I'm bowing out of this, too.

I hope you can all try to see that Prometheus, Thal, myself and others were only asking for evidence of Christian claims.

We never instigated this debate on Christianity and religion.  It was unavoidable due to the overwhelming preponderance of Christian references going on here.  I sincerely thought that you were actually encouraging us to discuss and debate them with you.  Otherwise, why so many allusions to God and The Bible?

We tried logical argument and when that was met with dismissal -- then anger -- we tried teasing.  Big mistake.  Had we ever thought in our wildest dreams that logic was offensive to certain Christians, I doubt we'd have gone there in the first place.  Funny to have to censor yourself for being logical.  But there it is.

My apologies.  It won't happen again.

thal...you did it again.  you attributed a post that i did not say.  how did you do it?  how are you making quotations that are not mine?

anyways.  you'd probably be right if i wasn't married.  i mean - who wants to have to go around looking for sheet music high and low - if there's a regular librarian in the midst.

thal...i accept the peace pipe.  what is in it, though?  i hope it's not peyote.  i'm feeling a bit  funny.

ok.  we're 16 years difference.  but it makes no difference to us.  i mean - i'm scorned by some older women until i tell them i'm his first wife.
