Besides, it's quite easy to see if the quotes are true or not, you just scroll upwards and read the previous statements.

To quote only part of what somewhat said, it is necessary to erase part of what was there before.

eg:

  i want your body.  i want to have your babies.

I agree that it should NOT be possible to change the text when quoting someone.

Humour was my aim when i did it and i would not do it to someone i felt i did not know, but it could be used nastily and give offense.

Now that i have done it, i don't think i can remove it myself.
