This is clearly not one of his better efforts. I usually like his playing very much, especially in his studio version of Gaspard.

Wow, that's quite some act.

I don't like it that much though. I liked it when he was younger.

Strangely, his suggestion diabolique vid below is rather sub par technically even.

Richter destroys Pollini in this piece

As do Horowitz and Daniel Pollack.

Regarding the original question, I think the performance is undeniably good, although I prefer others, notably Michelangeli and Argerich.

I don't have much experience either listening or playing this type of music, but to me it sounds like he could hit many wrong notes and I would never know, that he is improving also. Also, if I were to say what was the composer trying to convey, what general feeling, it would be " I am not a multitasker, and it's driving me nuts!" I guess i'm just too inexperienced to "get it". Thanks for the link though.

I seriously don't think it's fair to say that Pollini's is better than Richters or Richters is better than Pollini's. They are both incredible artists (although I'm not a fan of most of Pollini's playing, his Prok and stravinsky is unbelievable) and should not be compared in a "one is better than the other sense.

To claim the Richter "destroys" him is just a childish thing to state with no supporting argument. Why does he destroy Pollini? I don't believe a performance of this standered can be "destroyed". Maybe you prefer the Richter one, but please don't make such a bold statement and not even back it up.

I don't think Argerich compares to these 2 artists. Her Prokofiev is wild, and can be exciting (her toccata) but I feel that she sacrifyces to much to get the speed and energy. Her concerto recording of the 3rd is weak in terms of sound, and her Prok 7 sounds unclear to my ears and bugs me. Prokofiev should still have a strong powerfull sound, and not a brittle sound, and I feel she crosses over to brittle to often.

I havn;t her Michalangeli's Prokofiev ever, so I can't comment, but I'm very interested to hear it. His playing always arouses my attention. I imagine it to be somewhat calmer than Richters... am I correct?

Oh gosh, I just realised I misread an earlier quote which was reffering to the original question, which of course was scarbo. I thought we were comparing Argerich and Michalangeli's prokofiev. I havn't came across any michalangeli Prokofiev recordings. Did he make any? I have almost all the recordings of Michalangeli on cd and they contain no prok
