An introduction to Argerich...
on: February 11, 2004, 12:48:03 AM
For those of you who have never heard Martha Argerich, there is a nice little feature about her here: https://www.npr.org/programs/pt/features/argerich.html
You can hear Chopin's A flat major Polonaise as well as short excerpts from a Mazurka and the finale from the B minor sonata (both Chopin), as well as someone who can't pronounce Argerich correctly :),

Chopin's A flat major Polonaise
a Mazurka
finale from the B minor sonata

(both Chopin)

I just thought I'd get you on your grammar.

Her polonaise is too rushed and too loud, actually, in some parts.  But overall it was astounding and had very few wrong notes.  Too bad sound quality then was not too good...

yeah the polonaise isnt the best thing shes ever done, the left hand octave crescendo isnt as fast or good as cziffra, and in other sections i prefer horowitz. but that 3rd sonata sounds awesome.

I hope you meant 'in other sections Horowitz doesn't even compare' because Horowitz's recording of the Polonaise 'Heroic' was the worst I have ever heard.  He is a great player, but perhaps was in too much of a hurry to release the piece for an upcoming performance and did not prepare it adequately.  There are wrong notes at every turn and the dynamics are either explosive or lethargic... (I have the recording of Horowitz at home I believe)
Martha's just plain too speedy (as usual).
